Filming Day 4

Filming Day 4 We scrapped the ending we tried with the waking up on the bus scene and instead decided to have the main charecter wake up outside at night keeping the mystery factor and as he woke up he would check his texts in which the girl messaged telling him about an issue. This would all create mystery to the film and add enigma and a reason for viewers to watch onwards, solving the problem of the feedback we had received.

Filming Day 3 ( issues arises)

Filming Day 3: This was due to the the feedback we realized we needed to change the ending of the film to leave more of a reason to keep watching and create "enigma". So on this third day of filming we had previously planned on a new ending. In this new ending, in a simplified way, he would wake up but on a bus, and he would look around confused as to why he was on a bus and contemplating if what he experienced was  a dream or reality, he would then promptly get off and look outside to see he was outside of the girls street and he gets a message from the girl saying "Dont be late!". This will create confusion and want the viewer wanting to know what happens next and why he was on a bus   etc. The filming was delayed repeatedly due to weather conditions not being favorable but this was the least of our problems. We managed to get permission to film on a bus however do to some complications we couldn't film with full freedom and due to this we weren't able to...

Day 2 of Filming

Filming Day 2: The second day was very similar to the first everything was unexpectedly going according to plan, there were no major interruptions as such. However we were loosing light quite fast which was a problem as the film needed to feel continuous and not filmed on different days. We started off with the scene in which the protagonist wakes up in his bedroom, hastily gets ready for his date and rushes outside finding a bike. Then we moved onto the scenes outside which we did take quite some time on re doing as they werent coming out as we desired and this did cause us to loose some light, which some minor editing can fix.

Location Hunt

Image
We are starting the new year with another round of seeking optimal places for places to film, since the change in plan with the narrative has occurred we've pursued other locations to film at. We're making sure we dont face the same issue of not getting permission, so we mainly looked for public places that weren't very crowded at the same time. This tree with the lighting and the shadowed effect looked absolutely stunning, we will definitely be incorporating this into our film in some sort of way, perhaps just one the clips in the riding bike montages.

Synopsis

Synopsis A synopsis is a crucial element in media production, it provides a concise summary of any type of media. It conveys the core idea, storyline, and themes in a clear way, making it essential for pitching ideas and marketing for a film. It allows producers, directors, and writers to quickly understand the essence of a story before investing time and resources. A well crafted synopsis should be able to capture the main plot, characters, and conflict without unnecessary details, ensuring that the concept is communicated effectively. It is often used in funding proposals and script pitches, helping convince studios or investors to support a project. From a storytelling perspective, writing a synopsis helps streamline the plot and identify any weaknesses in the narrative. Here is a synopsis I constructed for our film; "A lazy teen oversleeps for his first date, scrambles in panic, recklessly arrives only to wake up and realize it was all a dream."

Crew and Roles

Crew and Roles; 1. Zaid Aman: I will be acting the role of the protagonist in the film, minor filming role, and major role in editing  2. Ahmad Hussain (MY project partner):  he will be doing the majority of the filming, and a minor role in acting in some scenes with the flower boy, and minor role in.. 3. Brother: he is a friend of ours who was willing to play the role of the brother but wishes to remain anonymous, he will also be helping in filming the flower boy scenes as me and Ahmad both will be acting in those.

Feedback!

Feedback: After showing the film to our teacher he told us the camerawork was excellent, the angles the shots and composition was good and the comedic affect landed, the music was fitting too. But he had 2 main critiques, first was that we hadn't used any voice overs as this was a convention of our genre, so we will be sure to add this in the final cut as it will also help us with the story telling, secondly he said the ending was not very fitting as it lacked continuity the story "just ends there" there is no reason for the viewer to keep on watching as the story has been completed basically. So we will be taking this advice and changing the part where he wakes up to something else with more suspense and reason for the viewer to want to keep watching

Updated Narrative

Updated Narrative Our story goes over the topic of a Valentines Date gone wrong. The scene is set with a boy sleeping in his messy room, we want to give the effect of this boy being lazy not only with work related things but all parts of life. He then wakes up and noticing how late he is to his first date starts rushing to get ready and leave. As he gets around his room tripping over obstacles in his way and rushing to find his clothes and wear them, each of these moments are building up anticipation for whats to come next. They also add the comedic value of the opening since all of these scenes will be exaggerated in a humorous way. As he then rushes outside he notices an unguarded bike, he looks around for an owner and not being able to locate one, in his desperation and frantic rush he gets on the bike and makes a getaway. Then as he remembers he needs flowers as he sees another person who looks like hes going on a date also (as he has flowers in his hand) he decides to zoom pa...

Day 2 of film planning

Image
We will start day two with the waking up and bedroom scenes. These are all the shots from the start of the film. Here we will be using mainly Mid shots for the waking up scene, as the protagonist scrambles out of bed we will use pan and OTS shots of him running around the room finding his things and getting ready. After filming this we will move onto the final scene which will be of the protagonist waking up from the dream and dozing back off. This is my project partner Ahmad his role was recording the protagonist. He had fun during the planning. hen when the protagonist finally leaves his home, a point of view (POV) shot will be used to show him seeing the bike and getting on it. (Then the montage we will film on day 1 will play through) Then in this nearby park we will film some shots of the flower boy walking along on a pathway and the protagonist stealing the flowers from him and speeding off on his bike.

Day 1 of film planning

Image
Shots List; On day we will attempt to get the following shots: A mix of close up and full body shots of the bike riding montage with pan and tilt shots will be used on this path We will attempt to recreate the shadowed effect this picture has as the protagonist rushes past on the bike it will be a frozen  frame with no camera movement but this  wider angle will be used This is a little further ahead on the path shown in the previous photo, here we will be shooting some lower angled shots and the scene where the protagonist finds the dead bouquet on the floor and is inspired to get his own. Here we will be using a mix of pan, tilt crane, dolly out and in, and over the shoulder (OTS) shots as he picks up the bouquet The main goal of day 1 will be to get most of the bike scenes out of the way so we are not dragging around a bike for the rest of the shooting days so we arent hindered later in filming and getting to the other locations.

Location Hunt

Image
We've had mid-years throughout December so I havent been able to post much recently, and we have been delaying work on our film for some time now. So today me and my partner in this project, went around looking for good locations for shooting our clips after school.

Planning ( Location and equipments)

Image
Planning(Location and Equipment); Location: For the first and last shots of where we will be filming the waking up scenes, we will be filming in my hostel bedroom. And for most of the other scenes we will be filming next to a pathway that doesnt have much foot traffic near his house. Both have been photographed in previous posts. There will be minimal risk and problems with filming there, since we have cut the graveyard scenes, and as the sidewalk is a public area so no permission will be needed to film, also due to the fact not many people use it since its very out of the way. Equipment: We will just be using my partner's iPhone X to film the entire film. Currently we have no plans on buying any other equipment for lighting etc. we will just be using natural light and trying to film during golden hour to get the best shots.  Mise en scene and other props:

Overcoming Adversity Again

.Since we had a scene in which we wanted the protagonist to run through a graveyard and pick flowers off of a grave. We had planned taking a wide shot of an actual graveyard to give context to the scene, then switch to much shorter shot sizes as the protagonist picked up flowers off of a makeshift grave we would dig out ourselves. Since we obviously knew we wouldn't get permission to film on an actual grave and we didnt feel comfortable doing that anyway, we just wanted to film one quick wide shot of a graveyard for context in the film. However, unfortunately upon attempting to get permission we were kindly rejected by the caretakers of the cemetery. This was understandable since we were asking for a lot just for some unprofessional teenagers that wanted to film it. So we've come to the conclusion to scrap the whole "graveyard" scene and just think of another comedic way in which the protagonist will get his flowers.  To try and make up for the loss of this scene we h...
